United Nation Quiz Bee 2025

Quiz Bee excitement!
On Friday, October 25th, we held our annual Quiz Bee for our Junior Prep and Senior Prep pupils. The pupils were divided into groups of 5 or 6 and from each group, there was one qualifier for the finals that were held at 3pm.
The children had all been given an understanding of the questions that would be asked so it was up to them to learn the answers with some coaching from their parents. There were three categories of questions:
-
Naming the capital cities of various countries in the world.
-
Identifying their National flags.
-
Trivia pertaining to world geography.

The first two sets of questions were multiple choice with the children using a white board to write down their answer A, B or C.
In the finals, the answers were given verbally with the quickest respondent being awarded the point.
I (Richard) arrived at the school shortly after 8am and sat in on all the Quiz Bees throughout the day. In each Quiz, we had two teachers - one to ask the questions and the other to write down the scores.
Some of the children had clearly made an effort at home, aided by their parents to learn the answers to potential questions; others clearly had not, so relied on good guesses to get the correct answer.
Ezekiel was one example of the former category; I watched him as he not only wrote his A, B or C answer but he proceeded each time to write out in full, the name of the capital.

Cheating was of course discouraged by the teachers but it must have been happening as there were questions that all received the same answer but all were wrong!
In the flag identification section, the correct answer was written on the back of the flag and Teacher Malyn was convinced that one boy was craning his neck to see the answer!
Sometimes, there was expression of emotion, with one boy becoming teary because he was not getting many correct answers; Teachers Jay and Mary Blanche stepped in to console him and we made sure not to give too much emphasis to those who got the right answer.

When it came to the finals, we held the Senior Prep final first with six contestants followed by the Junior Prep final with four contestants.

In the JP final, it was Luka who came out top but soft-spoken Julia (the only girl finalist) gave him a run for his money.
All in all, today’s Quiz Bee was a great success and the children enjoyed it.
